I had no real motivation to leave my house Saturday until I unearthed a $5 from beneath the receipt infestation that was growing in my bag. Saturday is usually a big shopping day for Dingaling Vintage but I got real lucky this week and maxed out my thrifting budget by early Wednesday morning. Enter $5.
These days there isn’t much you can do with $5. You can’t go see a new release movie at the theater, fill your car up with gas -you really can’t even afford a meal “deal” at McDonalds.
Now that we are all bummed out about the $5 bill being the new penny, I’d like to share a few things that you can do with $5! You can: take a bus ride, see a movie at Tiffany Plaza, purchase Wet ‘n Wild liquid eyeliner , OR dress like the musician/actress that we all wanna be (don’t hate, every girl I know–myself included–would just die to have her bangs)!
3. Achieve Zooey Deschanel’s “New Girl” black nylons/black shorts/colorful shirt look.
This is what I came up with:
- Vintage 1980’s canary yellow blouse with black trim, pleated collar and cuffs: $3.99 ($1.99)
- I couldn’t find shorts that were the right fabric content so I happily settled on this new-ish Banana Republic cotton skirt with pockets: $4.99 ($2.49).
- Taking into account that I chose the color tags that were on sale at ARC’s half off sale, my total came to $4.48!!!
SUCCESS!
But then I saw this awesome little compass and had to have it, as well:

I met my goal for finding an outfit for under $5. However, overshot my total budget and I spent a whopping $5.64. Thank goodness for loose change in the bottom of my purse!

Happy hunting!
