Vintage Lifestyle: Wallpaper

By February 29, 2012Blog

One thing I love most about estate sales is that you are allowed into someone else’s world. I love weaving my home together so I really feel honored at the opportunity to see how other people construct their space.

I’ve been in many homes in and around Denver and some of my very favorite are condo style homes in Aurora that were built in the 1960s. They are small, but laid out perfectly. And if I had to pick my very most favorite thing to find at an estate sale (besides vintage clothing!) it would be discovering gorgeous, hand printed wallpaper from the 1960s.

The last estate sale I wrote about (with the crazy bath faucets!) had this amazing koi fish foil wallpaper in the bathroom. I just can’t stop thinking about it! I thought I had taken a photo of it, but I was sad to discover I didn’t.

Now, if you are like me and grew up in the 80’s in a home with wallpaper almost everywhere, you probably witnessed at least ONE yelling match between your parents while hanging the blasted stuff, and you don’t have any interest at ALL in covering your living space with that tacky-home wrecking textile. Or, you are much hipper than I and know all about how cool wallpaper (sans country geese) can be and are way ahead of the game! Either way, I hope you will enjoy these vintage visual nuggets.

There is a smattering of vintage wallpaper all over Etsy. Check out this gorgeous stuff I treated myself to today:

And check out this rad vintage design that is still in production today:

These next few designs are from Trust Worth Studios. They are reproductions from the English Arts & Crafts movement.

As I anxiously await the arrival of my roll of 1940’s paper, and panic just a bit… I wonder if any of you have wallpaper hanging suggestions for a first timer?!
And if you are a wallpaper warrior, please share your photos with us on the Horseshoe Facebook Page! I’ll post my “before” & “after” as soon as I can!
Oh, and not to forget–there’s a new wallpaper store on Tennyson here in Denver! It’s called Covered Wallpaper, and there was a great article about in the Denver Post recently. I can’t wait to visit!
