Julie Mother F’ing Tierney (JMFT)
Julie Tierney is from Colorado, and the creater of J.M.F.T Industries, a fashion-forward Americana accessory and fashion label. Tierney began her tenure at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) thinking she would design women’s fly-fishing apparel. Fortunately, she wound up working with French designer Catherine Malandrino, who inspired her to create a collection based off her lifestyle. She draws inspiration from cold-weather scenes the world over, her work recalls everything from ’80’s skate scene, snowboarding, National Parks, to the traditional wears of nomadic Tartars and the landscape of the Colorado high-country.
Tierney snowboarded and skateboarded for a several years, living up at Purgatory outside Durango, Crested Butte, Mt. Hood and finally Breckenridge. Living in resort towns gave her the opportunity to become a pastry chef for several years. She eventually earned an Associate’s Degree in graphic design from Mt. Hood C.C. in Oregon, which years later lead to a scholarship to SCAD. Tierney joined the SCAD equestrian after never riding a horse, all just wear the hot equestrian outfit.
JMFT Industries is a fun, cool, unexpected, utilitarian and thought out fashion label. Lastly, Julie Tierney was on Project Runway Season 9.
