Introducing our first FirstBank scholarship winner for the summer market, Carina Ezell of ZellarC Ceramics. Carina creates beautiful and functional ceramic wares for your home. You can find her creations at the Horseshoe Market on July 11th! Read below to find out more about this talented maker.

Tell us about your art and how you got started creating.

I create ceramic kitchenware from a ball of clay to sitting in your kitchen cabinet waiting for coffee! I found my love for ceramics when I took an intro to wheel throwing class last semester in school at UNC in Greeley. I had messed around with clay before but never seemed to stick with it, though this time was different. I immediately wanted to learn more and improve as much as I could. I spend eight hour days sometimes in the studio trying to learn all I can and improve my skill!

What’s your favorite thing(s) about being an artist/creator working and living in Denver and Colorado?
My favorite thing about being an artist in the ceramics world is being able to create functional art, that I can use and interact with in my everyday life. I enjoy being an artist in Denver/Colorado because there are so many places that I can share my craft with and have the community to meet people just like me. Denver has so many opportunities for artists, emerging and experienced, and I am thankful to be able to take part in them!

What about the Horseshoe Market are you looking forward to, and what will folks find at your booth?
I am looking forward to learning more about markets and gathering inspiration from the other artists at Horseshoe! I am also super stoked to talk to all of the people who might stop by my booth about the process of ceramics and being an artist in general. I love sharing art with others who also enjoy it. People will find handcrafted, functional, beautiful ceramic pieces like mugs, tea lights, bowls, small vases, etc. at my booth. I am so excited to share the work I’ve been crafting with love with all of you!
